In the early 80’s after working in corporate finance, Dennis began a 30 year career in management consulting working with the Resolution Trust Corporation in asset recovery and management followed by a number of Chapter 11 reorganizations. He has continued to do high level financial consulting and asset management with Columbia Business Advisors.
Dennis co-founded The Piper Group LLC, a mid-cap merger and acquisition firm, in 1992. He has extensive experience in the acquisition, sale and management of privately-held middle market companies. He has managed the court-approved sale of distressed businesses since 1988. He is a recognized expert in growth management, turn-around, corporate finance and valuation.
Dennis has served as board a member for several middle market businesses in the Pacific Northwest and has served consultant to the Oregon State Economic Development Department in its business retention program. He is co-author of “Positioning Your Business to Sell”. His public service includes the Boy Scouts of America, Association for Corporate Growth, and terms on the budget committees of government organizations and agencies.
Dennis’s formal education includes a BS from Pacific University, an MBA from the University of Oregon, completion of the Strategy and Policy Course at the Naval War College, and completion of the Senior Officer Defense Seminar at the National Defense University. Dennis has also completed course work at the American Institute of Appraisal.
He is a retired Navy Reserve Captain.
In the mid 80's, after working as an engineer and lawyer, Bill transitioned to a career as a management consultant with a focus on managing business transitions and turnarounds in financially stressed companies often in crisis mode through appropriate emphasis on strategic management, internal restructuring, refocused business strategy, re-capitalization, and/or change in ownership to position the company to achieve revenue and profitability growth and/or a successful exit for ownership.
Most recently Bill has focused on business finance, commercial real estate finance and commodity brokerage. His appreciation for the financing needs in the business and commercial real estate arena are enhanced by his successful track record in business management, development, turnaround and transition spanning nearly 30 years.
Bill's consulting assignments ranged across many industries in both public and private entities. A significant number of assignments have involved early stage/high growth companies where the importance of finance was paramount. With ownership interests in several companies and leadership positions in others over the years, he is uniquely positioned to appreciate a client's needs and identify and source appropriate finance solutions.
Bill's is an Oregon native whose formal education includes Chemical Engineering (OSU), Studies in Finance (CSULB) and Law (UofO). He is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and Oregon State Bar.
Bill's civic service includes an eight-year commitment to the Oregon Energy Facility Siting Council, having been appointed in 1984 by Governor Atiyeh and reappointed in 1988 by Governor Goldschmidt, serving as its Chairman for five years. In addition, Bill served on the Lake Oswego Corporation board from 2000 to 2009, serving as its President 2005-06.
